Builders of Christendom Camp at Old Goshenhoppen Reformed Church
Join us for the Builders of Christendom Camp, a 4-day event for youth ages 10-18, held at Old Goshenhoppen Reformed Church from June 24-27, from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM each evening. This camp offers a unique blend of faith-building and hands-on skill development, where participants will grow spiritually while engaging in practical activities. Young men will hone woodworking skills by constructing picnic tables, while young ladies will learn culinary arts, preparing a variety of dishes. The camp concludes with a celebratory dinner on Friday, where everyone will enjoy the meal prepared by the young ladies on the newly built picnic tables.

General Evening Timeline (Tuesday-Thursday):
4:30 PM: Free-use open grill available for early arrivals.
5:00 PM: Burgers, brats, and hot dogs served for those who come early (or bring your own food to enjoy in the grove).
5:30 PM: Camp officially starts with hymn singing, prayer, and a lesson on a historic figure from the first 400 years of Christendom.
6:15 PM: Break into groups—young men begin woodworking, young ladies start culinary activities (detailed breakdown below).
8:15 PM: Fire pit is lit (weather permitting) for fellowship and reflection.
8:30 PM: Concluding night prayer (fire pit fellowship may continue later if weather permits).

Detailed Activity Breakdown:
Each evening begins with a time of corporate devotion. We’ll engage in hymn singing, prayer, and a lesson exploring a different historic figure from the first 400 years of Christendom, setting a foundation of faith for the evening’s activities.

Young Men’s Woodworking (Picnic Table Construction):
The young men will work on building picnic tables over the course of the camp, learning essential woodworking skills:
-Night 1 (Tuesday): Prepping the wood—cutting, making pilot holes, and starting with raw materials to prepare for assembly.
-Night 2 (Wednesday): Sanding and finishing the wood to ensure a smooth, polished look before assembly.
-Night 3 (Thursday): Assembling the picnic tables, bringing all the pieces together into a functional piece of furniture.
-Night 4 (Friday): Final touches—finishing and treating the wood on the already-built gaga pit as the young ladies complete the meal, preparing to dine on the newly built tables.

Young Ladies’ Culinary Skills:
The young ladies will develop kitchen skills, learning to prepare a variety of dishes, with each evening focusing on a different category:
-Night 1 (Tuesday): Desserts—mastering sweet treats to delight the taste buds.
-Night 2 (Wednesday): Soups and sides—creating comforting and flavorful accompaniments.
-Night 3 (Thursday): Entrées—preparing main dishes with confidence and skill.
-Night 4 (Friday): Bringing it all together—combining their skills to prepare a full feast, focusing on practicing biblical hospitality, served on the newly built picnic tables.

Dining and Fellowship:
On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, a grill-out will be available starting at 4:30 PM, with burgers, brats, and hot dogs served from 5:00 PM. Participants may also bring their own food to enjoy dinner outdoors in the grove on these nights. The final night (Friday) will feature a special celebratory dinner, where everyone will gather to enjoy the meal prepared by the young ladies, served on the picnic tables built by the young men. Each evening will conclude with a night prayer at 8:30 PM, following the lighting of the fire pit at 8:15 PM (weather permitting) for optional fellowship, which may extend later.

Materials, Costs, and Registration:
This camp has no set fee and will be donation-led to cover the cost of materials. We will need to purchase woodworking supplies (lumber, screws, sandpaper, wood treatment products) for the picnic tables and gaga pit finishing, as well as ingredients for the culinary activities (including food for the grill-outs and the final feast). To ensure we have enough materials for all participants, we need to know attendance numbers in advance. Please RSVP your children as soon as possible by responding to this post, listing how many children will attend and their ages. Additionally, all parents will be required to sign a liability waiver for each child participating in the camp.

This camp is a wonderful opportunity for young people to grow in faith, develop practical skills, and build lasting memories in a Christ-centered camp. We look forward to seeing you at Old Goshenhoppen!
